Classroom and Behavior Expectations
It is important that students are in their seats and ready to learn right at the beginning of class. Students need to be prepared with a writing utensil, notebook, text book and assignment notebook. Students will not get the opportunity to go to their lockers during class--so make sure you bring everything you need to class! If a student misses a class, it is the students responsibility to talk to the teacher about what he or she has missed. The student and teacher will work out a plan to catch up with the class.
On the white board, at the beginning of every class, there will be a topic for the day and the possibility of an assignment. Students should take a few moments to copy any information on the white board into their assignment notebooks. After everyone writes in their assignment note book class will begin!
The classroom is built on a system of respect. In a good social studies classroom students need to feel comfortable to express their own thoughts and opinions, students to not have to agree, but it is important we respect each other! If a student cannot meet these expectations there will be the following set of consequences:
If a student disrupts the class or shows any disrespect a student will be given a demerit. The demerit will be marked on their Ram card. Students must carry their Ram Card in their assignment notebook and be brought to every class. Three demerits will result in a detention. Students will continue receiving detentions on every third demerit given. If a student has received 3 detentions a student may face suspension
Students may also recieve merits for good and positive behavior shown in the classroom. At the end of the month teachers will collect the Ram Cards and count the number of merits and student has recieved. Student can then spend them in they wish on one of the following:
10 merits = 1 non-uniform slip or 1 late assignment slip
15 merits = 2 non-uniform slips
Any assignments due for the day will be collected at the beginning of class. It is important that work is turned in on time! If it is not turned in at the beginning of class it will be considered a late assignment. A late assignment will lose 50% of it’s points the first day and will count as a zero after that. Cheating is a serious offense and it will not be tolerated. Any students caught cheating will fail an assignment/project/test and will work out further consequences with the teacher.
At the end of class, students will get a few moments to work on homework. It is important students take advantage of this opportunity. Do not pack your things up early! The teacher dismisses the students, not the bell!
Everything done in class will be posted on the class website. Students and parents should feel free to contact me at time for any question!

Grades
40% Homework
30% Projects 30% Tests Grading Scale |
To be a successful student in junior high and into the future -- it is essential that students do their homework! Homework gives students the necessary practice to do well on projects and tests. Students who regularly do their homework will be able to participate in class, get a better grade and will ultimately learn more from the class
Projects are an opportunity to show your knowledge with "hands on" activities. You should spend the same amount of time on a project that you would spend on a test. Projects are a creative tool to evaluate what you have learned in the classroom. Tests are a part of life. As you go forward into high school and college, testing will be a larger part of your experience. It is essential that you learn good test taking skills now that you can use in the future. Along with evaluating your performance in class, social studies tests will provide a variety of exercises to give you practice for the future. Before every test you will be given a study guide to work on --- students who complete the study guide do better on their tests! The formula for success in social studies is simple: if you do your homework and work hard on your projects --- you will do well on your tests and will get a great grade in the class! |
